Gulmarg or "the meadow of flowers" is a prominent hill resort located about 35 kilometers from Srinagar, which is a popular hill station in North India. Accommodation, food and skiing equipments are borne by the State Tourism Department. The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering also offers a fifteen day skiing course for the beginners. Though it is not the best in India, still this institute takes enough efforts to promote adventure sports like trekking and skiing in Gulmarg area.
Heli skiing is going to be introduced in Gulamar in the coming winter season that will the first of its kind in Asia. Descending down the slopes from a high altitude in heli skiing will allow one to explore the gorgeous Gulmarg with endless powdered snow runs over the snow covered valleys. Heli skiing is going to be another wonder in Gulmarg apart from the existing Gondola ride in high altitudes.
